At CrossFit Wild South we support the phoilosophy of the Paleo Diet. So what is it?
The “Paleolithic diet” consists mainly of fish, grass-fed pasture raised meats, eggs, vegetables, fruit, fungi, roots, and nuts, and excludes grains, legumes, dairy products, potatoes, refined salt, refined sugar, and processed oils.
It can sound challenging, but basically we support our athletes to eat real foods, removing highly processed foods like margarines, and packaged goods like muesli bars.
So what are the advantages of the paleo diet?
- Favourable ratio of omega 6 to omega 3 fats
- Reduced sugar and overall carbohydrate load. One of the most common causes of moter disease is insulin resistance- due to excessive carbs, which is related to a whole lot of auto-immune and inflammatory issues.
- Improved gut health. Gut damage can be caused by gluten and other inflammatory causing proteins.
Overall the changes going on with in lead people to look, feel and perform better.
It is well received that making small positive changes that can be sustained as a lifestyle is a great move.
