Our Youth Programs are inspired through the very best knowledge and resources that the world has to offer, but more importantly, they are specific to Youth training and ALWAYS at the forefront of that is “What is best for the kids”.

Consistency of Movement for Youth

At our Wild South Youth programs, our passion is to create a better future for our youth. This future not only involves teaching our youth to move through life with freedom and fearlessness but to challenge themselves well beyond the confines of the gym. 

Successfully doing this relies on our ability to teach them the movement patterns correctly and consistently provide corrective feedback so that good movement patterns are achieved and maintained over time. It also involves training these movement patterns and developing habits that will provide our youth with the resources to arrive at movement solutions for all of the challenges they will face in their lifetimes.

In a lot of cases, this includes “undoing” poor patterns learned through repetition in early sports specialisation (doing the same thing over and over again can create imbalances, as does poor movement) so as to minimise injuries. For example, every Basketball and Netball season we see a marked increase in ankle and knee injuries (of varying severity) due not only because it is the “nature of the sport to be injured at some time” but because the basic jumping and landing movement patterns haven’t been consistently applied to the training for the young athlete. You can see that applying intensity (the game time) to poor movement patterns (the jumping and landing) can only logically increase the likelihood of injury, not only that but the effect that has over the lifetime of the young athlete.

 

As Brand X Professional Youth Coaches, we cannot allow poor movement patterns to develop or to continue. As you can see, it goes well beyond the observable fault in movement and can have a profound and long-term impact on well-being and the fullest expression of athleticism. Moving safely and efficiently from one appropriate position is physical literacy, which, in this context, should be understood as the capacity to devise and improvise movement solutions to the widest array of movement challenges.
