*Another cracker week at CFWS.

Before you read on to catch up on the week of workouts and words from the website, we have a couple of things to let you know about.

Firstly, shoes. But more importantly, dirty shoes.

You may have noticed that the weather has become wetter (and colder for that matter) and there is a bit more mud and things about the place.
Unfortunately, we seem to be getting a run of people wearing dirty shoes into the gym and making one hell of a mess all over the workout space.
We do ask that you consider the rest of the community who have to share that space with you for the rest of the day.
Our Coaches have been doing their best to clean up after the few people in the grubby shoe brigade, but they are Coaches, not cleaners. We would all rather they spend their time helping you become stronger and to move better instead of cleaning up after you.

We really would appreciate everyone achieving a “no muddy shoe” PR at every session.

Secondly, Yoga…

Our regular Yoga instructor, the lovely Heather, is taking a well-earned rest from taking Yoga at CFWS for the winter.
But fear not, we have Zoe from Your Yoga Invercargill sorted to take on our Yoga sessions so that you can continue to get the benefits of Yoga into your training and lifestyle.Some information about Zoe for those that have not had the pleasure of meeting her yet;

Zoe is a Yoga teacher and a Physiotherapist.
Since completing her yoga teacher training in Rishikesh, India her goal has been to combine her physio and yoga knowledge to create a yoga practice that can be suitable for everyone regardless of previous experience or injury.

“I am so excited to have the opportunity to provide yoga to my fellow CrossFit athletes and show them that everyone can benefit from yoga.”

This week at CFWS – Monday 3rd June, 2019

Queens Birthday, not only do we give a big thumbs up to Queen Liz, but we wave farewell to one of our community, Lillian, who is escaping to Holland for the winter, and by request, we are all doing DT!

Prepare the thumb tape and gear up for this famous Hero WOD.

Later in the week, we have programmed a couple of opportunities to advance our Gymnastic skills and have a turn using more advanced techniques within a WOD.

Catch up with the Crew – Tuesday 4th June, 2019

Ash, another of the Crew still with our community from the days of the group Starter Series.

By his own admission, Ash wasn’t a gym goer until he found CFWS. It has opened up a whole new level of understanding to all things fitness for Ash and he has continued to show consistency in his training and the rewards for that work continue to come.

As always, the best way to get to know Ash more is to take some time to chat next time you see him in the box, beware though, he is one of the 5:30 am red eye Crew…

The Youth of today – Wednesday 5th June, 2019

ACC has released the finding of a comprehensive report on the worrying increase in injuries in our youth…

“A dramatic rise in the number of kids being injured playing organised sports has sparked warnings for parents to limit how much sport their kids participate in each week.

Experts fear kids are doing too much high-intensity sport at too young an age, causing stress and creating a spike in injuries.

Children under 10 years old suffered 63 per cent more sports-related injuries between 2008 and 2017, while those aged 10-14 were also hurt 60 per cent more.

The statistics included those playing rugby union, soccer, netball, basketball, rugby league, gymnastics and touch rugby.”

At CFWS we have long believed that early sports specialisation was not “what is best for the kids” with respect to their long term human and athletic development.

Our Community – Thursday 6th June, 2019

We have regular community events throughout the year of varying types as well as our community organising many out of gym events.

It is a very important part of what we do here, connecting like-minded humans and empowering and motivating them to use their fitness in as many ways as possible, and to have fun. Fun is important.
